Grape Seed Extract-GSE and Healthy Brain Aging
posted by Dr Dee on November 7th, 2013Researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine have found that Grape Seed Extract (GSE)-a very powerful antioxidant, may help prevent the development or delay the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
The purpose was to evaluate the ability of grape-derived polyphenols ( examples are Grape Seed Extract, Resveratrol ) to prevent the generation of a specific form of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptide, known to cause the toxicity to nervous tissue found in Alzheimers Disease. ( AD)
Previous studies suggest that increased intake of grape-derived polyphenols may protect against cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s. This study supported findings hypothesized, the brain content of a specific form of Aβ previously implicated in the Alzheimer’s disease memory loss, was substantially reduced after treatment.
Conclusions from Mt. Sanai and Dr. Pasinetti lead reasearcher summed it up beautifully
“Since naturally occurring polyphenols are readily available through supplementation and have negligible adverse events even after prolonged periods of treatment, this new finding holds significant promise as a preventive method or treatment.”
